happiest place on earth?
Spent today at Disneyland. It was my son''s 8th birthday. We were going to do a big Laser Tag party, but some bad behavior at school killed that plan, so instead we went to the "magid kingdom" with a friend of his and their family. Now let me preface this rant with the fact that I don''t like crowds. As such, I don''t really like theme parks. And I don''t like rampant commercialization. Well, I was 3-for-3 today.
I''m a 3rd generation southern californian. Actually, 3rd generation San Diegan, but I''m living in LA now. You''d think I''d be a Disneyland regular, but I believe today was my 4th time ever there. I think I went when I was young (5?), then I remember driving up to a "special" night in college and the parking lot had so many people that I turned around and drove back to San Diego. Then I think we took Calvin when he was about 2 years old, and maybe again when he was 5. Instead we have gone to LegoLand, which I find much less annoying for some reason, probably because we''ve gone on weekdays off season, right when they open, so it isn''t very crowded. Plus the vibe is cooler.
But today sucked big time. In addition to all of the various personal issues floating around, there were crowds, lines, and the worst, a 50 minute wait at the Blue Bayou resturant. Not good with a hungry 8 year old and a hungry 43 year old. We finally escaped about 4:15pm. Egad...so glad to be sitting in traffic on the 5 fwy rather than walking around the "happiest place on earth." That slogan only holds if you''re on plenty of prozac and/or xanax. A nice $250 down the toilet. Thanks Mickey. I hope Minnies cuts yours off in a jealous fit of rage...
