Venus Campos

A New Yorikan born in the spring of the era of love, afros and bell bottoms; Venus Campos and her family left New York City before she was old enough to say "Big Apple". Trading their subway passes for life in Des Moines suburbia, she would sit in the front pew and mouth all the words to the church songs that her parents would sing in their vocal ensemble, thus beginning her musical education.

Not much progressed in those corn field years. It wasn't until her family moved to Florida at age 12 that she began to remember her hidden voice. In her 7th grade lunch line a friend convinced her to sing to pass the boredom. That started the ball rolling.

At the ages of fourteen, fifteen and sixteen Venus was involved in a 100 student choir with her peers from across the nation. She received the solo "one Moment in Time" at fourteen she was catapulted into a microcosm of autographs and National publication in the FFA Magazine.

As a senior at Gaither High School in Tampa, FL, she was involved in "Showcase" a school funded gigging band directed by Jerry Skora. She later went on to study at Berklee College of Music Boston, MA. Her college academia was cut short due to lack of funding but undaunted she joined local Boston Reggae band "Joint Chiefs" as a background vocalist. However, she was more interested in following the footsteps of her favorites; Joni Mitchel, M'Shell NdegeOcello, Jeff Buckley and Stevie Wonder. So she packed her bags and headed across to Los Angeles where she met with Jeffrey Snyder, whom she had met in Boston at a party, to start the origional duo of Simpleflower. In the early days of Simpleflower the sound was more Folk but would later expand to the more funk driven SoCal Soul quartet that it is today.
