January 2023 update: now with more jazz! I’ve been playing jazz standards as a bassist for decades, lately I’ve been woodshedding my jazz guitar chops and vocals. So yacht, country, jazz, and whatever else pops into my mind.
October 2022 update: now with more dobro! The solo act continues to evolve, as yachtcoustic morphs into dobro-tastic. You’ll hear the one-hit wonders, yacht rock, country, and maybe some metal (?!?), done with dobro and vocals. Hope to see you soon.
What’s a bassist (ie ensemble player) to do when there aren’t gigs? Pick the acoustic guitar back up and go back to their roots. Back in the mid-00’s perilous relish was active on YouTube with interesting rearrangements of classic rock and one-hit-wonder tunes. And going way back, it was finger-style folk and some bluegrass.
Calling this style, “yacht-coustic“, todd is now booking the occasional solo show (while also gigging regularly with Soul Stingers).
The goal is music you recognize, presented in a way that is a bit fun and different, with a splash of humor and tongue often firmly in-cheek. Yes, Stayin’ Alive is a country tune – after all, Australia is about as far south as you can get…
