There are plenty of people who will argue about performance and base their perception on quantifiable measurements and economics. But that doesn't tell the whole story. There is more to life than numbers, and the "user experience" consists of far more than just an assembled bucket of parts with a price tag. What is special to one person may be idiotic to another. And neither is universally right or wrong. Art and passion are not explained by algorithms. They are at once individual and shared. But they are not the same for everyone.

Two nights, two gigs, still Steely

The funk band adds keyboards, as I recruited long-time partner in crime Gary Mendell into the mix. Now to rearrange the arrangements so there is sonic space. Ooh...sonic...

Another week begins in earnest. Contracts have expired that need to be renewed, projects need to be prodded, parts need to be ordered, drawings need to be rendered, new proposals need to be written, and stuff just has to get done. Oh...and I need to woodshed some more on Steely Dan tunes. The big question is the prioritization of the above tasks...

A bonus week for the boy - no lessons! Dan (piano) is out of town, and I have a Steely Jam rehearsal tonight anyway. Thursday both Hirro (drums) and I have gigs, and Calvin is getting dragged to my gig. So a reprieve for the Calvinator.

No, not the REO Speedwagon song (though that is PR fodder). Instead another day of multiple PIF gigs, deep in the valley. That would make four gigs in three days. I think that is a record...wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have an insane day job crushing me. Maybe I can start burning the candle in the middle in addition to both ends...

On a side note, st bought me dinner at Campanille to celebrate PR's version of "Do It Again" going over 10K hits on youtube. Important program note: I'll be rebranding myself and doing that tune along with others solo at Peet's in MDR later this month.

A bad insomnia night - maybe just too much stuff crashing down at once. At any rate, st is off to weld, I took a spin on the GS to grab a late breakfast at Coogies, then the last rehearsal with IDC prior to the Molly's gig. Switched between the "new" (to me) Mouse and the beloved Deep 5. Man, that Mouse is tiny...or the Deep 5 is huge. Just depends on your point of view...

Just too damn many things to do and too many project fires to tend. So you go with the one with the shortest fuse - in this case a proposal due by COB. I hate that for others COB is 5pm PST, but for me it is 11:59pm PST. Slackers...

Always fun to have a group critique your work, but not involve you in the process, or even have them try to understand the what/how/why of your work. A nice session behind closed doors to get the "unofficial" report, then trying to contain myself with my responses to the largely-hatchet-job. Sweet.

400km/hr do it for you? how about playing a gig with no rehearsal? Or jumping into a new situation with an unknown fit. Where is the angle? How tight the dangle? Rehrearsal reversal to get at a new thing that can't be replaced. pick it and stick it.
