jackpot muse

When it rains it pours. Evidently my musical muse decided to make an appearance. Coincidence or conspiracy? Wrote a new song tonight, at least the beginnings of it. Yes, even with music (that has been elusive for quite some time). Actually used some free verse that I wrote many months ago with an eye towards being lyrics. Turns out that writing lyrics is harder than free verse, at least for me. That pesky timing and rhyming thing. But I slapped down a rough recording of it and was happy. Turns out that was only the beginning...

This weekend I took some boxes out of storage, mostly my album collection. There are some treasures there to be sure, and now I have to buy a turntable and digitize a bunch of stuff that I have (bootlegs, out of print stuff, etc). But tonight I decided to go through one of the other boxes and it is full of music stuff, dating back to my teen years. There are set lists for the Warp, Nasty Habits, The Blopucks, and other gigs. Lyrics to cover tunes, and music books for Hendrix, Clapton, Stones, and CCR. And something I thought was long ago lost...my spiral bound notebook from the end of the lost years that has all the lyrics to all my original tunes that I wrote back from about 1979 to 1983. The lyrics are crude (hey, I was young and heavily medicated), but some of the songs work. I remember the music, and on the fly tonight rearranged a couple for acoustic. With some rewriting of the lyrics and adding a bridge here and there, I think I've got more original setlist material.

So look for "Make it Last", "Tangelo Control", "Long Distance Misery", and other blasts from my past to make a comeback. For now, the existing lyrics to Tangelo Control. Just because.

If you add it all up and nothing's there
and it's getting so you just don't care
if you find somebody swiped your soul
hand it off to the tangelo control

if you come on over
think you'll begin to see the light
if you can't make it, that's allright

you can turn left, then go right
continue on until you done lost sight
keep on 'till you near your goal
but you can never stray from the tangelo control

if you come on over
think you'll begin to see the light
if you can't make it, that's allright

you say you want to make it all on your own
when it gets tough you just want to take a loan
even though you want to stay whole
got to leave some for the tangelo control

if you come on over
think you'll begin to see the light
if you can't make it, that's allright
