full day

Well, let's see. First of I guess the "day" technically started with watching "Fast, Cheap and Out of Control." Errol Morris is a genius. That's all I need to say about that. Then some other flotsam and jetsam. Next thing you know it's 2am and I have to get up before 7am to get the boy and J to the airport. So much for sleeping in. Short sleep, got up, was there to pick them up a few minutes early (some things don't change) and they weren't ready (some things don't change). Finally at 7:35am we roll out. And have to drop the dogs off at the kennel. Yikes. Well, I'm just dropping off, not having to deal with missed flights...

At any rate, got there on-time enough (didn't get a phone call), and then I headed back to shower, then hit Peets, then get my tooth drilled on over and over (crown prep). Then head back home drooling and numb, go to the hardware store (paint and zip ties...for the car). Then a large TJ's run. Including a plant and flowers. I was reading Thich Nhat Nanh's book "Present Moment, Wonderful Moment" and he talks about being mindful in everyday activities (like washing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, etc). But he also talks about flowers: "Arranging this flower in the saha world, the ground of my mind is pure and calm." Plus I need some color in the place.

The a brief bit of relax before the beginning of another softball season. Actually the first game was last Wednesday but Brubeck trumped the diamond. Was a little apprehensive and stretched a lot and tried to take it easy. And I did. Maybe that's why I went 4-4 hitting. Another life lesson there?

Then finally home with no place to go except the shower (to wash off my nice strawberry...was a great play but he beat my throw). Tomorrow is busy with needles and scalpels and paint, oh my! *Then* I've got some free time. Oh wait, no, I'm writing this week (week? what week?). Well, I did start the intro and a chapter, actually last week (cheated and wrote ahead). But that is on the book stuff not my grant stuff. So that is what is on tap. But not tonight. Tonight is for sitting. And writing music (I love the two-chord vamp). And this post. Which is over. Right.....now.
