The education continues with a double header tonight. First up was Ghost Dog, a Jim Jarmusch film, followed by Infernal Affairs, which was the original "inspiration" for The Departed, which earned Scorsese the oscar for best direction (but I think it actually was for Goodfellas). Ghost Dog was absolutely amazing. A jaw droppingly wonderful film. I was misty eyed at the end. I'll have more to say later, but suffice it to say it is in my top 10 at the moment.
Infernal Affairs was also great, but in that case I was struck with the direction and cinematorgraphy. Some of the shots were just gorgeous, and I had to keep rewinding to watch them again. I think I'm starting to get it. I was picking out rather obscure shots, but they jibe with my still photography bias. Looking back it took me a few years to start to get an "eye" for my photographs, and to date I've never really "seen" my video shots. But I'm starting to recognize them, and frankly can't wait to go see and shoot some things that I'm starting to feel rather than force. The only question is, why did I wait until age 45 to do this? Well, perhaps I wasn't ready to feel it until now. More will be revealed.
