Some tactical training in the desert. My shoulder complains...

Sometimes photos float back into your transom. Shots from Sawtelle interiors.

So what is up with this rain thing? It makes riding a bit of a chore. I'm not so worried about my riding, but the clowns around me. Bad enough when it is dry...
my empty Thursday calendar suddenly got stuffed with impromptu meetings and calls to prepare a dog and pony? OK, maybe that was rhetorical...
So who woulda thunk that a Japanese izikaya place would have killer Australian lamb? Globalization...
2 wheels through Joshua Tree.

Where did that hour of sleep go? Do they get collected somewhere? By some special team? In an interest-bearing sleep account?
No, writing. Right? Good gawd, I don't know what I'm doing. Thankfully that rarely stopped me before...
The creative process is interesting. Even moreso when you're trying to meld it with learning objectives and still keep things engaging and entertaining. And educational. Impossible you say? Ha...you haven't read the script. Of course I need to finish writing it first...but remember the 6C's - the last one is CRAZY!!!
No, not the movie, but rather the miles covered on the bike for work. First walking the boy to school, then back up the bike and head down to Pt. Loma for talks with the Navy. Then back on the bike (after tossing down a Clif bar for lunch) and north to Camp Pendleton for talks with the Marines. After some off-road festivities on-base, a stop in Capistrano for a late (4pm!) lunch, then the rest of the ride back to LA. Of course if you're doing 300+ miles on the bike you have to go to Italian Bike Night (even on a German bike).
Another day, another 6 hour meeting. And tomorrow will be more of the same. Woo hoo...and now to write write write.
Always interesting to watch/listen to others get hammered and belting out the obligatory, "I love you, man..."
Never know what is inside closed doors unless they are open

beware the ides of march

One of *those* mornings that extended into one of *those* days which finally ended as one of *those* days.

An interesting email from an ammunition reloading company today. Evidently a change in policy from a DoD surplus supplier now requiring all spent brass casings to be "mutilated" before selling. For those that don't know, brass cartridges can be re-used (green?) and reloaded into "new" ammunition. And in fact there are small companies in the US that exist for that very purpose. They buy surplus brass, much of it from the government, and reload to various specifications. The resulting "reloads" are sold to the public as well as law enforcement agencies all over the country. The requirement to mutilate the cartridges means that in order to recycle the brass it would need to be melted down and recast - and incredible waste of time, money and energy.
Not quite sailing the 7 seas...

On the job - Marlin 1894 Guide Gun chambered in 45-70 Govt.

Not Arlo Guthrie or Los Angeles, and certainly not carrying a couple of "keys" onto a Marine base...

Of course when one needs to write, one usually finds other things to do. Like clean off the desk. And install and learn new software. In this case though, at least the software (Final Draft) is part of the solution. 7 pages down, another 20 or 30 to go...
A "D"? A "D"?!?!?
Well, the computer will stay dormant for awhile...
Was that my back that went tweak? Arrghh...
So what do you do when your lower back hurts? Why ride down to San Diego and back for work meetings. Silly wabbit. Thankfully the day ended with a visit to Rica and some rather vicious work on the back. And ice. We need more ice.
OK, so the ride was a mistake. But in reality a car drive wouldn't have been that much worse. Sciatic nerve got tweaked while stretching for Tai Chi on Monday. Rica laughed because it is the first time she ever worked on someone who got hurt while doing Tai Chi. I'm nothing if not original...
Walking like an 80 year old, the show must go on. So after walking the boy to school, it was off to work for meetings. Then off to Rica for another back session. Then back to the meeting. Then off to the ortho (who took pity on me and fit me in), then back to the meeting. Finally at 5:30pm the work day ended and it was off to the pharmacy for some meds and ice. At least Young Frankenstein is waiting...
A few new tools in the toolbox, so out to the desert to break them in. Met some of the usual suspects out in the boonies...

No, not trying to hide anything. Just learn and take advantage of rights that some states grant while other ones don't. Interesting times...
Time for a sick day. Though somehow I ended up taking multiple phone calls and emails for work. And running some errands. sigh At least my back did get more rest and better treatment than sitting in my office all day.
The wait part seems to be missing, just a lot of hurry up and hurry. How many project (and proto projects) can one juggle. Tune in again next week...
