Ringing out the old, ringing in the new. With fire and good company.

Sometimes timing isn't on your side. Like when you get up early to slog 50 miles south to get a recall fix done on your bike. And they say 3-4 hours. You get a loaner bike, but it is wicked cold and misty so after some food and an errand you go back to the dealer to wait. And wait. And wait some more. Finally about 8 hours after arrival you're back on the road. Much to the chagrin of those who expected you to be done early in the pm. Well, what's a boy to do?
The end of the holidaze...and not quite enough sleep recouped. But that's how it usually works...

A new year, new (sort of) projects at work, and another year of tai chi. Finished up the 40 movement form, and it'll be on to applications, then broad sword, then straight sword (which I partially learned). While it actually has been pretty taxing lately, in part because I've been working on low stances (much to the chagrin of my knees), I found myself wondering about trying to do classes 4 days a week instead of just 2. Perhaps that is just the good old obsessive side coming out to play, but more martial arts likely can't hurt matters. But there is that pesky time thing. Only so many evenings in the week, and many gravitational pulls on my attention. While photos have been center stage lately, the music thing needs to make a comeback. And of course the boy should be the first priority. So maybe 2 nights a week is all I can muster. There is no rule that I can't practice on my own the other days though. Umm...err....yeah, that's it.
Going through my old blog, a little ditty that I wrote but didn't flag as "free verse." From 4jul06. Saved by digital...
All of the talk over the years
One thing setting up the other
When push comes to shove,
you have to pull the wires and disconnect the old pathways
But does the network change?
Ahh, I hear the sleighbells
Sorry, shuffleplay distraction
Hmm, good song title
Why am I typing this instead of writing that?
Good question
The resistance is strong in this one
Another from the archives (actually a friend sent it). The swan song for McReds in the valley, massive jam (3 drummers), and me taking a few tunes on guitar. 17dec03.

Manual focus can be a bit intrusive, but good glass is good glass...

A trip to Ft. Irwin. The desert is a big place...

If only it were a foot or two bigger...how many times have I thought that?

I do like this bathroom...for the purpose of pictures that is.

It is amazing how much work is required to get a project going. And we're talking just getting people into a room to talk. Evidently the legal ramifications are profound...
Now in profile

I'm not sure I'm really feeling the 21mm lens (32mm effective). Kinda of in between being really wide and somewhat intimate. Then again, I'm tired and not highly inspired so that might be part of it as well...

An evening discussion of economics, politics, and related academic bedfellows. I suppose I can talk about them, but it really isn't my cup of tea. It can be interesting when there are interesting people with interesting view points being...interesting. Especially the academic politics but that is a whole 'nother world...

Just another January afternoon...

Dancing in the Moonlight with the boy

I remember those days...

Angeles Crest Hwy to Angeles Forest Hwy to Lancaster and back again. Complete with a Meineke Muffler shop grand opening extravaganza with car show!

Genetics in action

A tale of three images - no meddling, some meddling, and a lot of meddling (with SilverEfx Pro)

arrggh...

Patience. Not a virtue of mine. Especially when playing cards. I suppose there is a life lesson in there somewhere, and I don't want to gamble for a living anyhow. Well, beyond riding a motorcycle perhaps...
A field trip to moca with other meanderings included. Clay is fun.

I only have a few more hours to clean...egad

I feel a series coming on...

The gang at the Marina del Rey Peets is usually good for a laugh or three (plus they know my name). But perhaps this elevates to writing fodder. Soul Termites. Yeah, I'm feeling that. Time to write...well, not this exact minute.
