Back in June of ’14, three consecutive acute back/neck issues prompted my doc to say, “get to the pool or face surgery.” The prospect of doing laps – or even floating around, which is all I really could do at that point – wasn’t particularly appealing. I love the water, but not necessarily an indoor pool, and certainly not just doing laps. My pool time was spent either frolicking or playing water polo (in HS). But the prospect of the knife scared me enough to get to the Y at the urging of Shirley. And so began a journey of water, starting with just walking in the shallow end. Unlike a lot of “oh I should…” efforts, I stuck with this and actually have been at the Y 5-6x a week doing at least 20 min of laps.
Flash forward to Dec, and the realization that the pool would be closed for renovation from 28Dec until 2Jan15. Yikes – there goes my routine. One would think that five days “off” would be good, but for an obsessive person, lack of routine is…well, lack of routine. But today was the day, and the pool was once again available, albeit busy. Water, good.
